CITS Launches New AI Tools Site to Support Safe, Smart AI Use at UMB
January 28, 2026
The Center for Information Technology Services (CITS) has launched an enhanced AI Tools page designed to help the UMB community navigate the rapidly expanding landscape of artificial intelligence (AI). This resource lists approved, restricted use, and prohibited AI tools to support safe, secure, and responsible use across campus.
The new page organizes tools into three categories:
Approved Without Restrictions (Enterprise)
These AI tools have been fully vetted and authorized for use by all faculty, staff, and students at UMB, with no special limitations or departmental requirements and are suitable for a wide range of University tasks.
Approved With Restrictions
Some AI tools are approved only under specific conditions, such as use within designated departments or for limited data types. These tools appear in a dynamically generated table that is regularly updated as approvals evolve.
Prohibited Tools
For security, privacy, or compliance reasons, certain AI tools are not permitted for UMB use. The list of prohibited tools appears alongside the approved categories to provide clear guidance about what should not be used when handling University data.
Want to Request an AI Tool?
If you’re interested in using an AI tool that isn’t yet listed, you can submit a tool for evaluation through the AI Application Review Request Form. This review and approval process ensures that each tool is vetted for security, data handling, accessibility, and compliance before becoming available to the campus community.
As UMB continues expanding its AI capabilities, clarity around tool approval is essential. To stay informed and ensure you’re using approved, secure AI technologies, be sure to visit CITS’ new AI Tools webpage to learn more about which tools are safe to use and how to request new tools for campus evaluation. Staying engaged with these resources helps support responsible innovation.
