Applications to the University of Maryland, Baltimore’s (UMB) Faculty Leadership Development Program (FLDP) will open on April 13.

This program, co-founded by Provost And Executive Vice President Roger J. Ward, EdD, JD, MSL, MPA, and Faculty Senate Past President Joshua M. Abzug, MD, is thoroughly supported by President Bruce E. Jarrell, MD, FACS, and all eight UMB deans.

The goal of the UMB Faculty Leadership Program is to enable our University’s faculty to advance their careers through enhanced leadership skills so they are prepared to leverage future opportunities. 

Program topics include:

  • Leadership in Higher Education and Self-Assessment
  • Executive Presence
  • Conflict Management
  • Diversity and Leadership
  • Intentional Leadership
  • Interacting with the Media
  • Philanthropy in Higher Education
  • Government Affairs
  • Strategic Planning 

To be eligible, you are required to have served on the faculty of UMB for a minimum of three years and have the written approval of your chair or dean.

Sessions will generally take place on one Thursday a month between September 2026 and May 2027. Dates are listed below. In-person attendance at ALL sessions is mandatory for successful completion of the program. There is no virtual option. Each session will be conducted from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The schedule may be adjusted as necessary.

  • Feb. 18, 2027
  • March 11, 2027
  • April 8, 2027
  • May 13, 2027

To apply, please email provost@umaryland.edu, and an Interfolio case will be created on your behalf for submission. Once the case is created, you will receive an email from Interfolio to upload your documents and complete the application form. The completed application is due Monday, June 1, 2026.
