The UMB-managed Claude For Education environment is now available to faculty, staff, and students who purchase a license through UMB. Designed to support the responsible use of artificial intelligence (AI) in teaching, learning, research, and administrative work, the service provides institutional oversight, privacy protections, and authorized support for UMB Level 1 Internal Information. This enables licensed users to take advantage of Claude's advanced capabilities while working within a University-approved environment.
Benefits of the UMB-Managed Claude Environment
- UMB account management and access: Access Claude using your UMID and DUO, just as you do for many other University applications.
- A secure, University-managed environment: Conduct University work within UMB's managed Claude environment rather than through individually managed accounts.
- Enhanced privacy protections: UMB's agreement with Anthropic includes a Business Associate Agreement (BAA), providing additional contractual protections for eligible services.
- Authorized use of University information: The managed service supports the approved use of UMB Level 1 Internal Information, subject to University policies and any limitations associated with specific Claude features.
- Improved stewardship of University data: Using the UMB-managed environment helps ensure University information remains within an approved and supported institutional framework.
Licensing Options
UMB offers two Claude for Education licensing options through the CITS Software Licensing Office:
Claude Edu Standard License
$200 per year ($17/month equivalent)
Includes all Claude features plus higher usage limits than the Claude Pro subscription.
Claude Edu Premium License
$600 per year ($50/month equivalent)
Includes all Claude features plus approximately five times the usage available with the Standard license.
Both licenses include access to Anthropic's advanced capabilities, including web search, code execution, Claude Code, Cowork, and connectors.

Purchase a Claude license by completing the Software Purchasing Form.
Current Claude users will receive separate communications regarding account migration.
