Please join us on June 8 as the Center for Advanced Research Training & Innovation and the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences co-host David Huang, MD, PhD, the 2023 Lasker Award winner and co-inventor of optical coherence tomography (OCT).

Huang developed OCT while a graduate student at Harvard/MIT. It has revolutionized diagnosis of eye diseases and has been co-opted to other fields, including but not limited to cardiology, neurology, and gastroenterology. Huang will tell the story of the conception and invention of OCT and its rapid development to clinical application, and the value of bridging engineering and clinical medicine.

Huang is the director of research at Casey Eye Institute, and professor of ophthalmology and biomedical engineering at Oregon Health & Science University. He was co-awarded the 2023 Lasker-DeBakey Clinical Medical Research Award and is a 2022 laureate of the National Medal of Technology and Innovation.
