Study Researching Virus That Causes Mono
February 23, 2026
The CIRCLE-EBV Study is an observational study that is looking at the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) — the virus that causes infectious mononucleosis (“mono”). Researchers want to understand how this viral infection develops and how it affects different age groups. It is hoped that this study will provide valuable information that may help develop vaccines or treatments against EBV in the future.
This study will include people who:
- are high school students, 14-17 years of age
- are first-year university students, 18-20 years of age
- have never had an experimental EBV vaccine.
You will not receive any treatments or vaccines in this study. We will collect information about your health from blood and saliva (spit) samples, and ask questions during regular study visits. It is hoped that your participation will help us gather valuable information.
Study participation will last up to four years for high school students and up to six years for university students.
