Nov. 16: GenAI Spotlight: ‘Designing Trustworthy AI-Supported Virtual Teaching Assistants’
September 30, 2026
How can faculty use generative artificial intelligence (AI) to extend instructional support without replacing human judgment?
Join University of Maryland School of Nursing (UMSON) faculty experts Charlotte Seckman, PhD, RN, NI-BC, CNE, FAAN, and Cory Stephens, DNP, RN, NI-BC, CPHIMS, FHIMSS, for an interactive virtual session introducing the JAIMIE Framework: a model for designing trustworthy, AI-supported virtual teaching assistants in higher education.
This session will trace JAIMIE’s evolution from a course-embedded assistant to a broader ecosystem of specialized AI personas. Participants will experience live demonstrations of text, voice, and avatar-based interactions, and learn how purpose-built assistants can be securely grounded in approved course materials, bounded by clear guardrails, and rigorously evaluated for educational value.
Whether you are already experimenting with AI or just starting to explore its potential, you will leave with practical considerations for how a similar approach could support your own courses and institutional priorities.
