Finding the right research collaborator or funding opportunity often requires searching across multiple systems, directories, and databases. The University of Maryland, Baltimore’s (UMB) Research Collaborator Chatbot streamlines that process by bringing research discovery and funding information together in a single AI-powered experience.

What Is the Research Collaborator Chatbot?

The Research Collaborator Chatbot is an AI-powered research assistant designed for UMB faculty, staff, and researchers. The tool uses trusted institutional and external data sources to help users:

  • Discover researchers and their areas of expertise
  • Identify potential collaborators across schools and disciplines
  • Explore research and grant opportunities
  • Support early-stage grant planning and team formation
  • Learn more about research activity and expertise across UMB

How It Works

Users can ask the chatbot questions in everyday language, much like talking with a colleague. If you ask about researchers, funding opportunities, grants, or research topics, the chatbot will provide AI-generated responses based on available data sources.

The chatbot also includes helpful features such as:

  • Chat starters to help users get started
  • Conversation history and saved chats
  • Exportable chat sessions
  • Speech-to-text and text-to-speech accessibility features
  • Response regeneration and feedback options
