Do you keep telling yourself, “This week I’ll finally write,” only for it to fall to the bottom of your to‑do list? If so, the Center for Advanced Research Training & Innovation (CARTI) can help you turn good intentions into a sustainable scholarly writing habit.

We invite University of Maryland School of Medicine and other University of Maryland, Baltimore faculty to join a Scholarly Writing Accountability Group (SWAG), a supportive, online, peer‑led writing group designed to help you increase writing productivity and develop sustainable writing habits.

Groups will meet via Zoom once a week for one hour between the weeks of Oct. 5 and Nov. 20, 2026 (seven weeks). Meeting dates/times will be arranged based on the availability submitted by faculty in their sign-up forms.

Groups will be formed based on these focus areas:

  • K/CDA Grant Applications (postdocs and faculty actively preparing a K or CDA application)
    Includes Q&A opportunities with
Marey Shriver, PhD, leader of CARTI's K Grant Writing Class
  • R01 Grant Applications (or equivalent) (faculty only)
    Includes Q&A opportunities with
Christy Chang, PhD, MS, leader of CARTI's R01 Grant Writing Class
  • Manuscripts and Other Non-Grant Writing Projects (faculty only)

If you’re looking for dedicated writing time, structure, and peer accountability, a CARTI SWAG may be just what you need.

Learn more about SWAG and sign up by Sept. 28!
