Join the Core Values Conversation: Equity and Justice Question 5
March 25, 2026
At the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB), our core values guide how we show up for one another and for the communities we serve. They are more than statements — they shape our culture, influence our decisions, and reflect our shared commitment to improving the human condition.
Through the end of April, our attention is focused on the core value set of Equity and Justice — our commitment to ensuring access, opportunity, fairness, and belonging for all members of our community.
The value set of Equity and Justice invites us to reflect on how systems, policies, and everyday interactions shape people’s experiences at UMB and beyond. It challenges us to consider not only what is fair, but how we actively contribute to a community where everyone can thrive.
Throughout the coming weeks, new reflection questions and opportunities for action will be posted to spark thoughtful dialogue across campus. We encourage faculty, staff, and students to pause, reflect, and share their perspectives. Your voice helps strengthen our collective understanding.
This week’s “values-in-action” challenge (Equity and Justice Question 5):
You can be a catalyst for others valuing Equity and Justice through your actions:
Think about a recent decision or process you were part of. What is one question you could ask in the future to ensure decision making is fair, inclusive, and transparent?
Question 6 will be posted on Monday April 6, 2026.
