As many of you know, Sukkot is a joyful Jewish autumn festival that celebrates
the fall harvest and commemorates the 40 years the Israelites spent
wandering the desert. This year, Sukkot began at sundown Friday, Sept. 25,
and ends at nightfall Friday, Oct. 2. To observe the holiday, families
build and gather in a sukkah, a temporary outdoor hut with a roof
traditionally made of natural materials like palm branches or bamboo. Inside
the sukkah, people share meals, entertain guests, and sometimes even sleep
under the stars to connect with history and nature.

For those observing the holiday, the Francis King Carey School of Law (500 W.
Baltimore St.) will have a sukkah on its rooftop hosted by Chabad. Members of
the UMB community with a key card can access the sukkah by entering the
library on the second floor, then taking the library elevator/stairs to the
fourth floor, where they will see the rooftop doors. Anyone encountering a
problem can text 443-602-2779 for assistance.

There will also be a sukkah in the Gudelsky Building (22 S. Greene St.) for
patients and families that UMB community members may use.

In the spirit of the holiday, we welcome anyone from the UMB community to drop
into the School of Law sukkah to talk with members of the Jewish Employee
Association on Wednesday, Sept. 30, from 3-5 p.m. or Thursday, Oct. 1, from
12-2 p.m.
