Feb. 9-13: EHS Hosts Tabling Events for Lab Safety Week
January 29, 2026
Each February, the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) celebrates Lab Safety Week, a national initiative dedicated to promoting safe research practices at colleges and universities, hosted by the Campus Safety, Health, and Environmental Management Association (CSHEMA). This year’s theme — Research + Safety = A Match Made in the Lab — highlights how thoughtful planning, hazard awareness, and consistent safe behaviors form the foundation of high‑quality scientific discovery.
Just as strong research relies on precision and care, a strong safety culture protects our people, our laboratories, and the integrity of our work. By integrating safety into every experiment, we ensure that our research community can innovate confidently while keeping one another healthy and protected.
Throughout Lab Safety Week, UMB Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) will be hosting tabling events across campus, offering safety resources, quick refreshers, and opportunities to ask questions:
• Monday, Feb. 9, 11 a.m.–1 p.m. — Health Sciences Research Facility I
• Tuesday, Feb. 10, 11 a.m.–1 p.m. — Pharmacy Hall
• Wednesday, Feb. 11, 9 a.m.–11 a.m. — Bressler Research Building
• Thursday, Feb. 12, 11 a.m.–1 p.m. — Health Sciences Research Facility III
• Friday, Feb. 13, 9 a.m.–11 a.m. — Health Sciences Research Facility II
As we celebrate Lab Safety Week, we encourage everyone — researchers, students, and staff — to reflect on how daily habits and small actions contribute to safer, more resilient laboratories. Visit the EHS website for additional resources and join us in recognizing that when research and safety work together, our entire community benefits.
