October is recognized nationally as Campus Sustainability Month. This October, the UMB Office of Sustainability will be hosting various events and initiatives across campus to celebrate sustainability. We welcome all members of the UMB community to participate!

SustainabiliTea, Oct. 7, 9-10 a.m.
The Office of Sustainability will be hosting a special edition of SustainabiliTea featuring our Climate Anxiety Oracle Cards! Stop by to hang out, ask questions, and drink tea with us. This event is in person in the Lexington Building on the sixth floor. Tea will be provided, but please BYO mug.
Walking Wednesday: Campus Sustainability Month Edition on Oct. 14
Join the Office of Sustainability for a special edition of our Walking Wednesday series. Meet outside the SMC Campus Center at 12 p.m. From there, we'll walk to and around Baltimore's Inner Harbor. This walk will feature Comfort K-9 Poe and Officer Anthony Summers.

Campus Cleanup on Oct. 27
Drop by our basecamp at the beginning of your shift to check in and get supplies. Swing back by the basecamp at the end of your shift to drop off your full trash bags! If you are a staff member who is interested in using one to four hours of paid volunteer leave for this event, you can view and print the required paperwork found on the Community Engagement website.
Tuesday, Oct. 27, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., outside Health Sciences Research Facility III

Walking Wednesday: Photography Edition on Oct. 28
Walking Wednesdays takes place every second and fourth Wednesday from 12:05-12:45 p.m. Anyone is welcome to participate as we walk around the UMB campus, meeting outside the Lexington Building.
For Walking Wednesday on Oct. 28, we will be joined by University photographer Matthew "Dag" D'Agostino, who will show us tips on how to capture photos on our phones.

Meet the Founder: Evan Woodard of Salvage Arc with The Grid — RESCHEDULED for Wednesday, Nov. 18, from 12-1 p.m., The Grid (HSHSL, third floor)
We are excited to co-host a Meet the Founder event featuring Evan Woodard, self-taught historian, explorer, and content creator known for founding Salvage Arc, a project dedicated to excavating historical artifacts from Baltimore's urban sites and using them to share accessible stories of the city's past. This event is a collaboration between The Grid and the Office of Sustainability. Lunch will be provided.

Specialty Recycling During October
Drop off hard-to-recycle items at the SMC Campus Center and Lexington Building lobbies during the month of October. This is a joint effort between UMB’s Office of Sustainability and Environmental Services.
Accepted Materials Include:
- Alkaline Batteries (both ends taped): AAA, AA, C, D, 9-Volt. Please do not deposit non-alkaline batteries including lithium ion, nickel cadmium, rechargeable, etc.
- Electronics: computers, laptops, servers, monitors, printers, keyboards, mice, switches, routers, wire, cellphones, tablets, communications equipment. UMB-issued electronics will not be accepted.
- Books: hardcover and softcover
- Toner/Ink Cartridges: laser and inkjet printer cartridges
- Textiles and Clothing: clean, dry, and odorless clothing, footwear (in pairs), linens and bedding, accessories (hats, bags, belts, gloves, ties, scarves, bathrobes, jewelry), and other (luggage, sports jerseys, stuffed animals)
- Plastic Bags and Film: shopping bags, produce bags, Ziploc bags, bread bags, cereal bags, bubble wrap, plastic overwrap, air pillows
