The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) Office of the Fire Marshal is teaming up with the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) for Fire Safety Month! This year's theme: Charge Into Fire Safety.
Help keep yourself and our community safe by reducing the risk of lithium-ion battery fires:
- Use the cord and charger that came with your device or ones approved by the manufacturer.
- Charge on a hard, flat surface like a table, desk, or floor.
- Stop using your device right away if the battery smells strange, is warm to the touch, makes popping noises, changes in shape or color, or if you see smoke.
- Unplug your device when it is fully charged.
- Charge large items like e-bikes, scooters, and power tools outside when possible.
