The Secure Research Environment (SRE) is UMB’s secure, cloud-based research platform for working with sensitive and restricted data. To keep the environment secure and running smoothly, please note the following reminders for requesting new software.

Software Request Deadline: Thursdays at Noon

All new software requests for the SRE must be submitted by noon Thursdays. Requests received after the deadline will be reviewed during the next request cycle, which may delay availability.

Security Compliance Approval Required

All software used within the SRE requires approval from Security Compliance. This review ensures that software meets licensing, security, and data protection requirements. Submitting requests early helps allow sufficient time for review and avoids delays in your research work.

Learn More and Join Weekly Open Sessions

The SRE is designed to support secure, efficient research — and the Center for Information Technology Services (CITS) is here to help. If you have questions about available software, licensing, or the request process, we encourage you to join the SRE open sessions the last Friday of every month with Braden Bierman, CITS IT Cloud Architect Specialist.

These sessions are a great opportunity to:

  • Ask questions about SRE software and licensing
  • Get guidance on submitting software requests
  • Learn tips for making the most of the SRE

Whether you’re new to the SRE or a regular user, these sessions are a helpful way to stay informed and supported.
