The University of Maryland School of Nursing's (UMSON) Office of Strategic Engagement and Impact invites you to celebrate America’s rich Hispanic history and culture with National Hispanic Heritage Month, Sept. 15-Oct. 15. Hispanic Heritage Month, established on Sept. 15, 1968, celebrates the shared anniversary of independence of five Latin American countries — Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. The independence of Mexico, Chile, and Belize also occurred during this 30-day period. The 2026 theme for Hispanic Heritage Month 2026 is “Together, we are more. Unidos, somos más.”

Wednesday, Sept. 23: Health Equity in Action Summit: Collective Power for Community Health

The Health Equity in Action Summit, hosted by the Institute for Policy Solutions, will bring together health equity leaders, including health care providers, public health practitioners, policymakers, industry representatives, researchers, academics, and advocates committed to eliminating health inequities for historically marginalized and underserved communities in the United States.
Monday, Sept. 28: LANUM’s Hispanic Heritage Month Lotería

Organized by the Latino Providers Network, this free, family-friendly festival brings more than 20,000 attendees together to celebrate the richness, diversity, and unity of Latino culture in Maryland. Guests can enjoy live music and traditional performances from across Latin America and the Caribbean, authentic cuisine from more than 50 local vendors, artisan marketplaces, cultural exhibits, a dedicated kids’ zone, and a vibrant parade highlighting Latino heritage. This signature event continues to grow as the largest gathering of its kind in the Baltimore region — a true celebration of community, tradition, and pride.
