March 14: UMB Office of Community and Civic Engagement Joins Money Power Day

The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) Office of Community and Civic Engagement (OCCE) is proud to participate in the CASH Campaign of Maryland’s Money Power Day, a signature community event March 14 that draws thousands of Baltimore residents for a free, daylong celebration of financial empowerment, career readiness, and resource sharing.
Money Power Day is recognized as the region’s largest financial fitness fair, offering workshops, exhibits, and one-on-one guidance to help individuals and families build stronger futures. This year, OCCE will be represented by Lisa Rawlings, director of UMB Workforce Initiatives, who is offering a practical and inspiring workshop designed to remove barriers to career advancement.
Workshop Highlight: Getting Career-Related Educational Credentials for Free
Time: 11:30 a.m.-12:45 p.m.
This session equips participants of all ages with the tools to pursue meaningful career opportunities without incurring debt. Attendees will:
- Learn how to identify in-demand credentials across industries.
- Understand which certifications carry weight in health care, IT, skilled trades, business, and creative fields.
- Discover reputable free training programs that lead to sustainable wages.
- Walk away with a checklist for evaluating training credibility.
By focusing on accessible options such as certificates, apprenticeships, and workforce programs, the workshop ensures that participants leave with actionable strategies to achieve professional success — without financial strain.
