UMB is one of the safest areas in downtown Baltimore. When it comes to staying safe, small habits can have the biggest impact. That's why UMB Police and Public Safety is encouraging students, employees, and visitors to focus on taking small steps to ensure our community's continued safety.

This week: Stay Aware

Put away distractions (like phones and headphones) so you know what's happening around you. Vehicles, scooters, bicycles, and other pedestrians can move quickly and may not always be able to see or anticipate your movements.

Give yourself a moment to look up, listen, and pay attention — especially when crossing streets, walking through parking garages, or moving through busy campus spaces. A little extra awareness can help you spot potential hazards and make safer decisions.

Students, faculty, and staff, let your voice be heard!
