UMB Strategic Plan 2022-2026

The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) 2022-2026 Strategic Plan co-chairs revealed a draft set of updated core values at an April 1 virtual town hall, then surveyed students, faculty, and staff on what they thought about the possible changes.

UMB’s current core values are accountability, civility, collaboration, diversity, excellence knowledge, and leadership. The draft set is as follows:

  • Respect and Integrity (evolved from civility and accountability)
  • Well-Being and Sustainability (evolved from leadership)
  • Equity and Justice (evolved from diversity)
  • Innovation and Discovery (evolved from excellence, knowledge, and collaboration;).

About 200 people attended the virtual town hall, and about 200 responses were received in the survey that spanned April 5-12. The survey combined quantitative and open-ended questions for each proposed core value, along with an opportunity for feedback about core values overall.

The survey asked the same four questions about all four proposed core values, using a 5-point Likert scale, with these response options: Very much; Somewhat; Neutral; A little; Not at all.

Here are the results, based on the 5-point Likert scale. You can see the full results of the survey in this PowerPoint presentation.
