The U.S. Public Health Services (USPHS), America's healthcare first responders, is looking to recruit bright and driven health professionals. Nursing students are invited to participate in a paid externship called the Senior Commissioned Officer Student Training Externship Program (SRCOSTEP) while they attend school. Students in their final year of school receive a full salary while attending classes and are guaranteed a healthcare position in a federal agency upon graduation. Students graduating in 2023 are eligible for the SRCOSTEP.

MedStar Health – Baltimore Region, Summer 2021 Student Nurse Externship
MedStar Health invites nursing students slated to graduate in December 2021 or May 2022 to join the Summer 2021 Student Nurse Externship program. This program gives senior nursing students an opportunity to work under the direction of an experienced RN in the care and well-being of patients through mentorship and hands-on-learning. The Summer Cohort will begin on June 7th and run for 6 consecutive weeks. Externs will work 36-40 hours per week, while attending one class per week (built into the schedule). Students will be invited to remain on staff in a flexible position should they be interested in continuing.
