The purpose of the fellowship is to provide aspiring nurses with comprehensive clinical exposure to oncology nursing and to "best practices" in compassionate care. The Nurse Extern is defined as a nursing student in an accredited nursing program. He/She has completed at least one semester of Med/Surg and is a rising senior. The extern, under the direction of a Registered Nurse, assists in the implementation of nursing care to patients and their families where basic nursing skills are required. The nursing extern will be given a patient assignment appropriate to skill level.
