U.S. Public Health Service, Paid Externship (BSN Students)

The U.S. Public Health Service, one of our Nation’s eight uniformed services, offers BSN students an opportunity to participate in a paid externship called the Senior Commissioned Officer Student Training Externship Program while they are attending school. This program offers students financial assistance (military-like salary and benefits) during their last year of academic study. After graduation, participants are guaranteed a full-time federal position with the Federal Bureau of Prisons as a U.S. Public Health Service officer.

National Institutes of Health, Clinical Research Nursing Residency Program (New RNs)

The National Institutes of Health’s (NIH) Clinical Research Nursing Residency Program is designed to assist the newly licensed graduate nurse in the transition from nursing school to professional practice and a career in clinical research nursing. The twelve-month program focuses on building critical thinking, professional practice skills, and clinical competency in the context of a clinical research setting. Clinical areas include Medical Surgical Specialties, Oncology, Pediatrics, and Neurology. This program is open to recent graduates and new nurses with less than one year of experience.
