Congratulations to Sumon Nandi, MD, MBA, FAOA, for being chosen as one of four surgeons worldwide to partake in the prestigious John N. Insall Traveling Fellowship through The Knee Society, an academic by-invitation-only membership organization for internationally recognized thought leaders, innovators, mentors, researchers, and educators.

Over the course of five weeks, Nandi, an associate professor of orthopaedics and chief of adult reconstruction, visited 10 major, high-volume joint replacement centers across the U.S. where he presented his research, discussed complex cases, and helped to educate fellow knee surgeons. Nandi was selected for this opportunity based on his impressive resume and letters of recommendation.

At the University of Maryland, Dr. Nandi specializes in rapid recovery for outpatient hip and knee replacement, revision hip and knee replacement, and knee arthroscopy. He places a strong emphasis on patient-focused care, where time with patients and bedside manner are as important as exceptional surgical results.

Throughout his career, he has received many prestigious awards in addition to this most recent opportunity, including the Rothman-Ranawat Traveling Fellowship (2013), and the American Orthopaedic Association traveling fellowship in conjunction with the Japanese Orthopaedic Association (2015).

Nandi is board-certified in orthopaedic surgery, and is heavily involved with research in addition to providing clinical care. He has been featured in more than 170 publications and presented at numerous regional, national, and international conferences.

His orthopaedic practice is located in Timonium, Columbia, and at Camden Yards. To refer a patient or to schedule an appointment with Nandi, call 410-448-6400.
