An Invitation

The field of genetics and genomics is revolutionizing how human health and disease are conceptualized, diagnosed and managed. Nurses must be prepared at both the pre-licensure and graduate level and be confident and competent in their ability to interpret and apply genetic and genomic data.

As part of a grant supported by the Nurse Support Program II (NSP II), administered by the Maryland Higher Education Committee and led by Dr. Nicole Mollenkopf, we are conducting a project to facilitate the inclusion of genetics and genomics content into nursing school curricula in both pre-licensure and advanced practice and graduate programs. As part of this project, we have started a community of practice to collaboratively work on best practices for developing and disseminating information, and strategies to develop capacity in the state of Maryland. We are inviting all interested nurses and others to join.

What is involved?

The community of practice will meet virtually once a month. You will also have access to a range of resources developed by the program.

What level of knowledge do I need?

You do not need any specific expertise in genetics and genomics. We have experts on our team and we are going to learn together.
