Healing Youth Alliance participants

The Healing Youth Alliance (HYA) will present its virtual youth conference "Healing Through Action" from 6 p.m to 7:30 p.m. June 29.

HYA, a culturally responsive program focused on healing for African American youth, is a collaboration among the University of Maryland School of Social Work, the Baltimore City Health Department’s Office of Youth and Trauma Services, and two Baltimore nonprofits: HeartSmiles, LLC, and the Black Mental Health Alliance.

Youths are trained for 20 weeks on healing, mental health, and trauma in the African American community to prepare them to become trainers and consultants to youth and youth-serving agencies.

The conference will be streamed on the HeartSmiles YouTube channel.

The inaugural conference, titled “A Real Conversation About Mental Health from a Youth Perspective,” was held virtually in November 2020 and was attended by 655 people.
