Do you know that patients are suffering because of providers' inability to have deep and honest conversations around racial bias in health care? In a survey recently done with nurses, it was acknowledged that they don’t fully understand how race is connected to one’s physical health. However, studies show that discrimination is associated with biophysical changes and puts additional stress on the body.

For a long time as nurses, we have just “wanted to take care of patients and stay out of the politics” but in this era of civil unrest and health disparity we must come to the table to learn how to approach these conversations with skill and confidence. In this session at 8 p.m. May 27, we will review the concepts of racial justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion and explore ways that nurse providers can address issues of inequity.

Join Nicole Akparewa, RN, MSN/MPH, nurse coordinator at the Insititute of Human Virology Clinical Division at the University of Maryland, Baltimore, as she presents on these issues and how health care providers can get equipped to address this issue.
