The following letter was sent Dec. 14, 2021, to the UMB community about parking fee increases:

Dear Colleagues,

The University of Maryland, Baltimore’s (UMB) Office of Parking and Transportation Services would like to thank all the payroll deduction and monthly parkers who have continued to support the program during the COVID-19 pandemic.

You may recall that the last parking fee increase was in October 2019. We were fortunate to avoid increasing the rates for two years, but an increase is now necessary due to:

1.   The maintenance and restoration of our aging garage facilities.

2.   The rising cost of items for daily operations and routine maintenance due to supply and demand and increases in delivery of necessary items.

3.   The annual increase in costs for on-campus parking contractors and garage operations.

4.   A decrease in employee, daily visitor, patient, patient transporters, and sporting/special event parking on campus.

Beginning Jan. 16, 2022, all parking fees will increase for UMB and Lexington Market Garage parkers with biweekly payroll deduction and monthly invoice billing.

The parking fees increases will be as follows:

·    Biweekly Payroll Deduction Fees: These parking fees will increase from $56 per pay period to $57.50 per pay period. Reserved spaces will be at two (2) times the payroll deduction rate. The increase will appear in payroll checks dated Feb. 4, 2022.

·    Lexington Market Payroll Deduction Fees: Rooftop parking fees will increase from $29.25 per pay period to $30.75 per pay period. Lower-level parking fees will increase from $37 per pay period to $38.50 per pay period. The increase will begin appearing in payroll checks dated Feb. 4, 2022.

·    Monthly Billing Fees: Monthly parking fees for UMB garage facilities will increase from $121 per month to $124 per month. The increase will be reflected in the February 2022 billing. Other monthly billing programs (non-UMB) are as follows: $66.67 for Lexington Market Rooftop and $83.47 for Lexington Market Lower Level.

Your continued support of the parking program is greatly appreciated.

Please direct any questions to Parking and Transportation Services.

Sincerely,
