The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) Institute for Clinical and Translational Research (ICTR) congratulates the awardees of the 2021 round of applications for the KL2 Mentored Career Development Award and TL1 Predoctoral and Postdoctoral Clinical Research Training Awards. Junior faculty and predoctoral students and postdoctoral fellows from all seven UMB schools (Dentistry, Law, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Social Work, and Graduate School) were invited to apply.

UMB KL2 awards are designed to develop the next generation of clinical investigators, guiding scholars toward independent clinical research careers. The UMB KL2 program provides mentored career development to outstanding junior faculty who have recently completed professional training and are performing high-impact translational and/or clinical research. Scholars receive up to three years of support with access to multidisciplinary mentorship, formal coursework, and professional development opportunities. The KL2 program is funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS) Clinical and Translational Science Awards (CTSA).

The TL1 Training Program is part of the NIH Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award program. Funding for three awardees is provided by the NIH National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS) Clinical and Translational Science Awards (CTSA). One additional awardee was funded internally by the ICTR. The purpose of the TL1 Awards is to support the training of biomedical, behavioral, and clinical researchers through individual training across all UMB schools.

The UMB ICTR CTSA KL2 Mentored Career Development Program is led by director Christy Chang, PhD, and associate director Graziela Kalil, PharmD.

The UMB ICTR TL1 Clinical Research Training Program is led by director Luana Colloca, MD, PhD, MS, and associate director Graziela Kalil, PharmD.
