Cohort 4 of the UMBrella Coaching Program launched earlier this month with 11 incredible coaches and 60 staff and faculty participants representing schools and units across campus.

The virtual program orientation opened with invited guest and past participant of the program’s inaugural cohort, Lauren Levy, JD, MPH, ’11, health officer, Cecil County, who leads the health department’s response to COVID-19 among other health initiatives and services with a staff of 140. She is also former managing director of the Law and Health Care Program at the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law and an alumnae of the school. Levy shared personal reflections and emphasized the need for an expansive definition of leadership. Her encouraging message to the group: ”You can be your authentic self and still be a leader.”

Also invited was Cohort 3 alumnae, Eileen Eldridge, web content specialist for the PATIENTS Program in the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy. Eldridge attributed much of her recent career success to participating in the program. She offered this advice to those beginning their coaching experience: “Be all in. Allow yourself to be open to new possibilities.”

Their inspiring words were well-received by the show of hand claps, smiles, and comments in the chat.

Over the next eight months, participants will engage in virtual coaching group discussions and a lineup of career panels, presentations, and networking. Best of luck to these women on their new journey of personal and professional development.
