Sarah Christa Butts

Sarah Christa Butts, MSW, a 2007 graduate of the University of Maryland School of Social Work (UMSSW), is contributing to thought leadership nationally on macro social work field education and policy field practicum.

Butts, director of public policy at the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) and a UMSSW field instructor, co-authored the preface of a paper published by NASW and the University of Michigan titled "The White House as a Field Placement: Reflections on the Past, and a Future for Policy and Political Practice."

The paper features a speech by social worker and White House Fellow Harold Richman and explores macro policy field placements, political social work, and policy practice roles for social workers.

Butts served as a faculty field instructor to Nora Simmons, MSW, MPH, and Paige Jones, MSW, LMSW, who both secured prestigious congressional fellowships after graduate school and are featured in the paper.

Jones, a UMSSW alumna who graduated this year, is featured on page 22 and is now a Congressional Black Caucus Foundation health policy fellow assigned to the office of Rep. Gregory Meeks (D-N.Y.). See www.cbcfinc.org/team/congressional-fellows/paige-jones/.
