Executive Alliance Honor Roll Award for Women's Representation: University of Maryland, Baltimore

The University is among 43 organizations honored for having at least 30 percent women’s representation among its executive leadership and board.

The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) was among 43 organizations to receive the Executive Alliance’s 2023 Honor Roll Award for Women’s Representation.

The Honor Roll designation highlights publicly traded companies, private companies, and nonprofit organizations in Maryland that employ women in at least 30 percent of their executive leadership roles and have women in at least 30 percent of their Board of Director seats.

In recognizing UMB, Executive Alliance noted that 50 percent of the University’s executive leadership team and 46 percent of its Board of Directors are women.

Diane Forbes Berthoud, PhD, MA, chief equity, diversity, and inclusion officer and vice president, UMB, and professor, University of Maryland Graduate School, accepted the award for UMB during a reception March 23 at DLA Piper in Baltimore.

“I am delighted to accept this award on behalf of UMB," Forbes Berthoud said. “The Honor Roll Award is a wonderful recognition of our strong commitment to advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion in gender representation and leadership.

“Being publicly recognized for creative and supportive recruitment, development, support, and advancement of women in the workplace and corporate boards is indeed an honor. The Honor Roll Award raises the bar for women’s representation in the C-suite and board room, and we at UMB are proud to not only meet, but exceed that bar.”

Executive Alliance is an organization in the Greater Baltimore region that connects accomplished women on a professional and personal level to expand their impact and influence in the boardroom, the community, and the leadership of businesses, civic organizations, and government.

The group analyzes the representation of women at the highest levels of leadership through its annual “Census Report: Women Board Directors in Maryland.” The Honor Roll is part of this report.
