CVD has long been at the forefront of tackling infectious diseases and promoting global health equity, and this symposium reflects its commitment to addressing the emerging challenges of our time. With the increasing urgency of climate-related health threats, the 2025 Climate Health Symposium will serve as a vital platform to advance dialogue, spark innovative ideas, and inspire action among researchers, practitioners, and policymakers alike.

Last year’s event featured UMSOM’s Andrea Buchwald, PhD, assistant professor, Department of Pediatrics. Buchwald is an infectious disease epidemiologist with long-term interests in infection transmission, the impacts of climate change on infectious diseases, maternal child health, and the use of immunological data to inform intervention design. She recently received a grant to further study the impact of climate change on health. Other faculty at the event included Shiladitya DasSarma, PhD, professor, Department of Microbiology and Immunology.
