We celebrate Silvia Fuentes for her remarkable achievements and look forward to witnessing the continued impact of her work in shaping a better future for all.

The Social Work Departments of UMBC and UMB at the Universities at Shady Grove are proud to recognize Silvia Fuentes, UMBC Class of 2017 and UMSSW Class of 2019, for her exceptional contributions to the field of social work. At the recent Social Work Career and Networking Reception, Silvia was celebrated for her unwavering dedication to promoting social justice, providing trauma-informed care, and improving access to essential services for vulnerable populations.

Silvia’s journey as a social worker reflects her commitment to making a profound impact on individuals and families in need. Over the past seven years, she has worked tirelessly as a bilingual therapist, case manager, and advocate, addressing critical issues such as trauma, mental health disorders, intimate partner violence, and poverty. Her expertise in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, crisis intervention, and strength-based approaches has transformed lives and empowered communities.

Currently serving as the Social Work Care Manager Supervisor at Holy Cross Health Network, Silvia leads a multidisciplinary team focused on delivering behavioral health services and addressing social determinants of health. Her innovative contributions include developing bilingual resources like the “Know Your Rights and Responsibilities” guide, which empowers clients to navigate their care effectively. Additionally, Silvia has played a pivotal role in securing funding for behavioral health initiatives that enhance client engagement and therapy outcomes.

Silvia’s leadership extends beyond her immediate role. She has collaborated with healthcare providers, schools, and community organizations to improve access to food, housing, medication, and financial assistance. Her dedication to mentorship is evident through her supervision of case managers, community resource coordinators, and UMBC social work interns.

As a proud immigrant passionate about breaking down barriers to mental health care within the Hispanic community, Silvia continues to create culturally responsive spaces where clients can heal and thrive. Her work exemplifies the core values of social work—compassion, advocacy, and resilience—and inspires those around her.

On behalf of UMBC and UMB’s Social Work Departments at Shady Grove, we celebrate Silvia Fuentes for her remarkable achievements and look forward to witnessing the continued impact of her work in shaping a better future for all.
