UMB Workforce Initiatives hosted a conversation March 28 featuring Gilbane Building Co. at the UMB Community Engagement Center in Baltimore. Madison Haas, a community impact and engagement specialist with Gilbane, shared valuable insights into the company's upcoming hiring opportunities and explored ways to collaborate with local construction training organizations.
The event aimed to foster collaboration between Gilbane and local construction training organizations like attendees Goodwill Industries of the Chesapeake, JARC-Baltimore, and Safe Alternative Foundation for Education. Current Gilbane workforce partner Project Jumpstart also attended.
Haas talked about the company’s collaboration efforts in Washington, D.C., and discussed how Baltimore-based potential partnerships would support workforce development in the construction industry. Attendees engaged in meaningful discussions, networked with workforce training professionals, and learned about new opportunities for Baltimore participants. They also discussed how the Southwest Workforce Roundtable, a collaboration of workforce training organizations and employers who work with residents in Southwest Baltimore that is facilitated by UMB Workforce Initiatives, could be helpful in future collaborations.
The event was a success, with many attendees expressing enthusiasm about the potential collaborations and the positive impact on the local community. Gilbane looks forward to continuing these conversations and building strong partnerships in Southwest Baltimore.
UMB Workforce Initiatives' collaborations with Gilbane Building include a job fair/hiring event in September at the UMB Community Engagement Center.
