As part of its 10th anniversary celebration, the University of Maryland, Baltimore’s (UMB) Council for the Arts & Culture is featuring Q&As with its members on The Elm. This week, we shine the spotlight on Lori Edwards.
What is your name/school/job description at UMB?
Lori Edwards, DrPH, BSN, RN, CNS-PCH, BC, FAAN, Associate Dean, Master of Science in Nursing Program, and Assistant Professor, Department Family and Community Health, School of Nursing
Why did you join the Council for the Arts & Culture?
I was so excited to join the council, invited by founder and chair Jennifer Litchman to be a member. I had also volunteered for the annual Spring Festival, submitted photos for the first 1807 art and library journal, and represented the School of Nursing. It’s been an honor to be a part of this incredible group of art advocates. It’s very inspiring to see how the mission has evolved and expanded to showcase the many artistically talented people at UMB.
Outside of your work on the Council, what’s something people might not know about you?
One of my art forms is dance.
What do you hope people take away from their experiences with the arts?
The arts can transcend and uplift the human spirit. In organizations that emphasize intellect and analytical thinking of the mind, the arts offer a powerful way to engage the heart and soul.
