The funding will support additional food purchasing, help streamline daily operations, and expand outreach so more students are aware of available resources.
In October 2025, the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) Student Pantry received welcome news: It was awarded a $3,000 Swipe Grant from Swipe Out Hunger to bolster its efforts in reducing food insecurity across the University. The timing could not be more critical, as a growing number of UMB students continue to rely on the pantry for consistent access to nutritious food and essential household items.
The Swipe Grant will strengthen the pantry’s capacity to serve the campus in several key ways. The funding will support additional food purchasing, help streamline daily operations, and expand outreach so more students are aware of available resources. These enhancements will ensure that students experiencing financial strain or food access challenges can count on reliable, judgment-free support throughout the academic year.
This investment directly aligns with the pantry’s mission to promote student well-being by addressing basic needs barriers that often influence academic performance. The UMB Student Pantry is grateful for this support and remains committed to fostering a campus environment where every student has access to the resources they need to learn, thrive, and fully participate in university life.
