Digital accessibility begins with awareness and action across the UMB community. New federal regulations that take effect in April 2027 require public universities, including UMB, to ensure that their websites, course content, digital documents, and online tools are accessible to the public and students with disabilities to access our programs, services, and activities. We will be sharing information and tips in “The Elm Weekly.”
Many users rely on keyboards instead of a mouse to navigate websites, forms, and digital tools. Accessibility testing should include keyboard-only navigation to ensure all interactive elements can be reached and used effectively.
When testing, use the tab key to move through links, buttons, and menus. Make sure focus indicators are visible and navigation follows a logical order. Keyboard accessibility improves usability for students and the public with mobility disabilities and power users alike.
