Evaluate accessibility using built-in checkers and specialized tools that scan content for issues such as missing alternative text, improper structure, or low color contrast.
Digital accessibility begins with awareness and action across the UMB community. New federal regulations that take effect in April 2027 require public universities, including UMB, to ensure that their websites, course content, digital documents, and online tools are accessible to the public and students with disabilities to access our programs, services, and activities. We will be sharing information and tips in “The Elm Weekly.”
By now, you are creating ADA-compliant emails, documents, and webpages for your students and the public — but are you checking whether they truly work for the people who rely on them?
UMB’s Tools and Testing resources highlight practical ways to evaluate accessibility using built-in checkers and specialized tools that scan content for issues such as missing alternative text, improper structure, or low color contrast.
These tools help identify barriers and confirm that materials meet Web Content Accessibility Guidelines standards, ensuring that digital content is readable, navigable, and usable with assistive technologies.
Regular testing helps move accessibility beyond design best practices and ensures your content is functional and inclusive for all users.
