All public-facing videos must include captioning, and some require audio description.

Digital accessibility begins with awareness and action across the UMB community. New federal regulations that take effect in April 2027 require public universities, including UMB, to ensure that their websites, course content, digital documents, and online tools are accessible to the public and students with disabilities to access our programs, services, and activities. We will be sharing information and tips in “The Elm Weekly.”

All videos that are public-facing at UMB must include accurate captions. Captions support people who are deaf, hard of hearing, or blind — and they help everyone in noisy or quiet environments.

If a video includes essential visual information not spoken aloud that is necessary to understand context, it needs audio description. This ensures that blind and low‑vision users can fully understand the content. Not every video requires it — but many do.

The UMB Digital Accessibility website has tips on video accessibility. Watch these videos to learn more.
