The FIRST Peer Mentorship Program hosted a Mid-Semester Reset Social to help students recharge, connect with campus resources, and build community at UMB.
The FIRST Peer Mentorship Program recently hosted its Mid-Semester Reset Social, an event designed to provide mentors and mentees with time and space to reconnect, recharge, and engage with campus resources in a welcoming environment.
The event brought together several campus partners who met students and shared information about their services. Participating offices included URecFit and Wellness; the Writing Center; the Student Pantry; the Office of International Students, Scholars, and Employees; the Student Counseling Center; the University Student Government Association; and Educational Support and Disability Services.
During the event for the program that pairs first-year students with experienced peers, mentees connected directly with representatives from campus support offices, learning about available resources and, in some cases, scheduling follow-up meetings for additional guidance. Throughout the gathering, students also participated in low-pressure wellness activities such as affirmation coloring and crossword puzzles while enjoying refreshments and informal conversation with peers and mentors, creating a relaxed environment that encouraged connection, reflection, and access to support.
The Mid-Semester Reset Social was intentionally designed to create a low-stress environment where students could relax while building connections with fellow students and campus staff. These moments of informal engagement help students feel more comfortable navigating campus resources and strengthen their sense of belonging within the UMB community.
Additionally, two prospective students attended the event and expressed interest in serving as mentors in the next cohort, highlighting the growing visibility and impact of the program.
Overall, the Mid-Semester Reset Social successfully created an opportunity for students to pause during a busy academic period, engage with campus resources, and strengthen relationships within the FIRST mentorship community.
