Dean Judy Postmus

We begin the new year with purpose, energy, and resolve, continuing our advocacy for the social work profession while closely tracking the effects of federal legislation and reclassifications.

I hope that you all had a restful winter break and were able to spend quality time with family, friends, and loved ones. As we enter the spring semester, one of the busiest times of the year, we welcome nearly 100 new MSW students and expect to graduate approximately 355 students. We also step into this new year with a new vision statement for the School of Social Work:

At the University of Maryland School of Social Work, we envision a future where social work research, practice, and policy come together to drive social justice and equity, strengthen communities, and improve lives locally, nationally, and globally.

As you enter the lobby of the Baltimore campus, you will see a banner displayed with signatures from UMSSW faculty and staff representing our commitment to our new vision. Throughout the year, we will share additional activities and opportunities to incorporate our new vision into our work, studies, and schoolwide functions.

Wishing you a Happy New Year and a productive and positive spring semester!
