Assistant professor brings extensive background in teaching, clinical simulation, and clinical experience to new role.
Samantha Hoffman, DNP ’23, Cert '21, MS ’16, CPNP-PC, assistant professor, has been appointed vice chair of the University of Maryland School of Nursing’s Department of Family and Community Health (FCH).
Hoffman has served in multiple roles within UMSON. She joined UMSON in 2018 in a staff role as a clinical simulation training specialist in the Debra L. Spunt Clinical Simulation Labs in Baltimore. She was appointed to a full-time faculty position as clinical instructor in 2021 and was named assistant professor in 2023.
Hoffman earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice and Master of Science degrees and a certificate in Teaching in Nursing and Health Professions from UMSON. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Stevenson University in Maryland. She is a certified pediatric primary care nurse practitioner.
Hoffman brings broad experience to her new role. Susan Wozenski, JD, MPH, assistant professor and chair of FCH, described Hoffman as “unique and well-suited to the role of vice chair. Her teaching spans baccalaureate, master’s entry-level, and DNP programs and she has additional expertise in simulation. This breadth of work provides insights into the teaching and student needs of the large entry-level clinical courses as well as the nurse practitioner and DNP project courses.”
Hoffman chairs UMSON's Entry-Level Curriculum Committee and serves as an UMSON representative to the University of Maryland Medical Center’s Clinical Practice Council. She is the chair-elect of the Chesapeake Chapter of the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners and maintains an active clinical practice as a pediatric nurse practitioner at the Choptank Community Health System in Denton, Maryland.
Hoffman’s teaching expertise, background in clinical simulation, and extensive clinical experience are important assets in supporting the work of FCH and its 63 faculty members.
