The University of Maryland School of Nursing proudly participated in the 2026 Polar Bear Plunge by forming a team in support of Special Olympics Maryland and the Maryland State Police.

The UMSON Family & Friends Team showed up for inclusion at the 30th Annual Polar Bear Plunge on Saturday, Jan. 30, in 15-degree weather. It was so cold, but that didn’t stop them!

Thank you to Bridgitte Gourley, Shannon Idzik, Casey Jackson, Kate Scott, and Rebecca Weston for representing UMSON and taking the plunge this year. Together, UMSON raised more than $2,200 to support athletes.

We’re already planning to do it again next year, and we’d love you to join us. When you support the Plunge, you’re not just taking a quick dip, you’re also standing behind programs that promote inclusion, health, and opportunity for more than 25,000 athletes across Maryland.

Interested in jumping in with us next year? Stay tuned for team details and the sign-up link in November.
