The pantry thanks everyone who stepped in to help make a recent delivery possible. Their willingness to assist and adapt to unexpected circumstances highlight the value of collaboration across UMB.
Maryland Food Bank delivery days are always an adventure for the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) Pantry, and October’s delivery was no exception!
As UMB Pantry expands its services to include faculty and staff, in addition to students, food deliveries have grown from two pallets to three, weighing more than 3,000 pounds. While these deliveries help ensure that more members of the UMB community have access to food resources, they also require additional coordination and support.
October’s delivery presented a unique challenge due to construction at the SMC Campus Center loading dock, which was closed during certain times of the day. Although deliveries are typically scheduled during an 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. window, the Maryland Food Bank truck did not arrive until after 10 a.m., creating some uncertainty about where the delivery would be placed and how the food would be transported to the pantry on the third floor.
Fortunately, teamwork made all the difference.
Kenny Anderson from Event Services, a familiar and dependable source of support, was ready and willing to assist again. Additional support was requested from Eddie Adair and Ricardo Johnson to help navigate the unexpected delivery arrangements. Alongside Monique Bucknor from the UMB Student Pantry, the team worked together to move 3,150 pounds of food from the loading dock to the third floor of the SMC Campus Center.
The task required coordination, teamwork, and plenty of sweat, but the team successfully completed the move and ensured the food could make its way to the pantry.
The UMB Pantry extends a heartfelt thank you to everyone who stepped in to help make this delivery possible. Their willingness to assist, adapt to unexpected circumstances, and support the pantry’s mission demonstrates the value of collaboration across the University.
In the spirit of the Division of Student Affairs, let’s give kudos to Kenny Anderson, Eddie Adair, Ricardo Johnson, and Monique Bucknor for their outstanding support!
Their efforts help the UMB Pantry continue its work of providing food resources to students, faculty, and staff. Sometimes, making a difference takes more than a delivery truck — it takes a team willing to roll up their sleeves and get the job done.
