University of Maryland, Baltimore alumna Tisha Edwards, MSW ’00, JD ’01, president and CEO of the Maryland Bankers Association, University School of Social Work board advisor, and a newly appointed University System of Maryland Board of Regents member, sat down with Fulvio Cativo, associate dean of external affairs at the University of Maryland School of Social Work, to discuss how interdisciplinary training expands leadership pathways on the latest episode of the "Social Work is Everywhere" podcast.
Edwards, originally from Meridian, Miss., came to Baltimore for the dual MSW/JD program and describes how social work’s people- and community-centered lens, paired with legal and policy skills, prepared her for diverse roles across education, city and state government, and banking. She emphasizes mentorship and sponsorship, surrounding yourself with people who “level you up,” and building transferable skills to “recession-proof” a career by reframing experience across industries. As a regent, she focuses on affordability, financial literacy, and student financial well-being, reinforcing that “social work is everywhere” and needed wherever people and communities thrive.
