The free housing resource event will connect attendees with homebuying guidance, financial assistance information, and community resources.
The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) Office of Community and Civic Engagement will host Homeownership Resource Day from 3 to 8 p.m. June 9 at the UMB Community Engagement Center at 16 S. Poppleton St.
In recognition of National Homeownership Month, the free event will connect students, employees, community members, and prospective homebuyers with organizations offering guidance on purchasing homes in Southwest Baltimore communities. Dinner will be served during the event while food lasts, and free parking will be available. Register for Homeownership Resource Day.
Southwest Baltimore offers a range of housing opportunities for buyers at different stages, from first-time homeowners to families looking for larger homes. The area also provides convenient access to UMB, downtown Baltimore, major transportation routes, local businesses, and cultural destinations — making it an increasingly attractive and affordable option for people looking to live and work in the city.
Organized in partnership with Southwest Partnership, Fulton Mortgage Company, LifeBridge Health, and local housing professionals, the event will feature educational sessions, information about financial assistance programs, and opportunities to speak directly with lenders, developers, neighborhood leaders, and housing organizations.
The event will begin with “From Campus to Closing” from 3 to 5 p.m., an educational session focused on the homebuying process, including budgeting, credit, student loans, mortgage options, and available assistance programs. While designed with students in mind, the session is open to anyone interested in learning more about buying a home.
A Community Housing Fair will follow from 5 to 8 p.m., featuring organizations and agencies focused on expanding access to affordable housing and homeownership opportunities in Baltimore. Attendees will be able to learn about homebuying incentives, available housing opportunities, and home repair and support services for existing homeowners.
The event also highlights UMB’s Live Near Your Work program, which provides eligible employees with financial assistance to purchase homes near the University.
“I love that we’re able to support housing-related issues in our adjacent communities,” said Brian Sturdivant, MSW, director of strategic initiatives and community partnerships at UMB. “Every staff and faculty member who participates in our Live Near Your Work program represents a step forward for UMB and its neighbors!”
