The School of Nursing associate professors are recognized for their exceptional compassion, clinical expertise, and commitment to excellence in patient care.
Two University of Maryland School of Nursing faculty members have been honored with 2026 Excellence in Nursing Awards from Baltimore magazine.
Kelly Doran, PhD ’11, MS ’08, RN, FAAN, associate professor, (left) received the award in the Educator category. Marik Moen, PhD ’19, MPH, RN, associate professor, (right) was recognized in the Research category.
They will be recognized during an awards ceremony May 7 and will be featured in the May 2026 issue of the magazine.
Nurses are selected from among hundreds of nominations submitted by peers, supervisors, and patients; they are recognized for their exceptional compassion, clinical expertise, and commitment to excellence in patient care. An expert panel of senior nurse advisers reviewed the nominations and selected this year’s winners.
Doran has been an UMSON faculty member and researcher since 2012 and has led multiple worksite wellness studies within long-term care facilities. She is co-director of the Building Healthy Behaviors Across the Lifespan Organized Research Center. She also serves as director of health and wellness at the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) Community Engagement Center, which assists residents in the West Baltimore community by leveraging UMB resources to reduce health disparities.
Moen, who joined UMSON in 2009, is co-director of the Center for Health Equity and Outcomes Research. Her research focuses on social determinants of health, including social isolation, housing insecurity, basic income, substance use disorders, and infectious diseases. She is nationally recognized for advancing nurse–peer and community health worker approaches in HIV and addiction care and for building cross-sector collaborations in low-income and senior housing communities.
Shana Robertson, student in the Doctor of Nursing Practice Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner specialty, is also among the honorees.
