Environmental Services Week

All are encouraged to celebrate by recognizing the EVS staff and members of management.

Held every year during the second full week of September (Sept. 12-18 in 2021), Environmental Services (EVS) Week is dedicated to recognizing the efforts of hard-working EVS staff members. We have seen these unsung heroes on the front lines during a global pandemic keeping facilities clean and safe for those who work, study, visit, and live at the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB).

“I am personally grateful to work with such a wonderfully diverse group of people and proud to be part of the EVS team here at UMB. I cannot express enough thanks for the time and effort that each EVS team member puts into everything they do for the campus every day,” says Denise Meyer, EVS associate director.

Other members of the UMB community also have shared their thanks and appreciation:

“Thank you, EVS team members, for your dedication and commitment. You are a vital part of our UMB family. You are appreciated!” — Nazanin Fouladi, MArch, DBIA, associate vice president, Facilities and Operations

“The EVS staff is part of the operational backbone of UMB that keeps the University functioning. I want them to know how valued they are, not just this special week but all year round. We couldn’t survive without them, and that is the truth. EVS team, thank you for all you do.” — Dawn Rhodes, DBA, MBA, senior vice president and chief business and finance officer

All are encouraged to celebrate with us by recognizing the EVS staff and members of management. Here are a few simple things you can do:

  • Actions speak louder than words
    • Pay attention and acknowledge EVS staff
    • Listen empathetically
    • Smile
  • Say “thank you.”
  • Write an appreciation note
  • Post photos of appreciation on social media
  • Pay it forward
